Hello

Hello

Welcome to the First Edition of A Magazine

Hello, and welcome to A Magazine.

I've always loved magazines.

There is something special about opening one and finding a little world inside it—stories, places, beautiful things, recommendations, ideas, and discoveries that make you want to keep turning the pages.

And somehow, I realized that I wanted to create my own.

Not a magazine about one particular subject.
Not a diary.
Not a place to document every detail of my personal life.
But a magazine about experiences.

The things I see.
The places I visit.
The things I buy.
The food I try.
The books I read.
The events I attend.
The things I discover.
And sometimes, simply the things that make me stop and think, “Oh, I really like this.”

So, welcome to A Magazine — The Personal Magazine of Alicia Van Akker.

Why a Personal Magazine?

I don't think being personal has to mean being self-centered.

In fact, some of the most useful things we can share are simply things we've experienced ourselves.

Before buying something, I often want to know what someone who has actually used it thinks.
Before visiting a place, I want to know what it is really like.
Before spending money on an experience, I want to know whether it was worth it.

And I imagine I'm not the only one.

So A Magazine is my little way of saying :
“I've experienced this. Here's what I found.”

Maybe you'll find it useful.
Maybe you'll discover something new.
Maybe you'll save your money.
Or maybe I'll simply introduce you to something you'll love.

A Magazine Doesn't Need a Niche

One of the things I love most about this project is that I don't have to put myself into one category.

I don't have to choose between being a food person, a fashion person, an art person, a travel person, or a book person.

I'm simply a person who experiences many things :

  • One day I might be talking about a museum.
  • The next, a restaurant.
  • Then a book quote I saved.
  • Then something I bought.
  • Then an event I attended.
  • Then a place I've added to my Wishlist.

That's okay.

Because life itself isn't organized into content categories.

Our experiences simply happen.

A Magazine is where I get to collect some of them.

A Little More Than a Blog

I don't want A Magazine to feel like another website where articles simply appear and disappear into an archive.

I want it to feel like a magazine.

That's why there is a Hello page.
This is my Editor's Letter—but with one difference.
There isn't a team of editors behind it.

It's me.

Every month, I'll come here to say hello, share what's on my mind, and open a new edition of A Magazine.

Some months might have a particular theme.
Some might simply be a collection of things I've been experiencing.

There are no strict rules.

Just another little page to begin each month.

So, Let's Begin

This first edition is the beginning of something I've wanted for a while a place to keep the experiences that don't quite belong anywhere else.

Not everything needs to become part of my professional work.
Not everything belongs on my personal social media.
Not everything needs to become a serious article.

Some things can simply be enjoyed, experienced, reviewed, remembered, and shared.

And that's what A Magazine is for.

So, if you've arrived here for the first time, welcome.

Take a look around.
Read something.
Find something for your Wishlist.
Discover a new place.
Maybe find something worth buying.
Or perhaps find something worth skipping.

And if something here helps you make a better decision, discover something new, or simply enjoy a few minutes of your day then I'm very happy you stopped by.

Welcome to A Magazine.

Let's see where this little magazine goes.

Love,
Alicia Van Akker
